(Brief Introduction of The Enlightenment)

The Enlightenment refers to an anti-feudal and anti-church ideological and cultural movement of the bourgeoisie and the people during the 17th and 18th centuries. Centred in France, it is characterized by breaking superstition and mysticism, promoting science (then called natural philosophy or philosophy for short) and reason, liberating people from fear, ignorance and all kinds of ideological and spiritual shackles.

The Enlightenment of this period covered various fields of knowledge, such as natural sciences, philosophy, ethics, political science, economics, history, literature, pedagogy, etc. The Enlightenment has urged the birth and prosperity of modern science. Science has built the momentum for the Enlightenment, and made the Enlightenment more deeply rooted in people's hearts and radiate lasting vitality.

The European Enlightenment not only provided a sharp ideological weapon for the American War of Independence and the French Revolution, but also presented a theoretical prerequisite for the formation of Marxist philosophy.
